Kyle Kiel joined the Local 4 News team in April 2013 as the Weekend Meteorologist and can also be seen reporting during the week. Kyle grew up in the Quad Cities and is thrilled to be forecasting the weather in his hometown.
Kyle's interest in weather began at a very young age. While he still watched cartoons, Kyle spent a lot of time glued to The Weather Channel. That fascination continued after a local meteorologist came to his school to talk about the weather and what exactly a meteorologist's job entails. From that point on, Kyle knew he would one day forecast the weather.
His interest grew after a tornado ripped through the QCA, keeping him after school for nearly an hour. But the only problem, he then had a fear of thunderstorms and tornadoes. After his parents sat him down and made him read encyclopedias, the fear went away and the fascination continued.
Throughout his schooling, Kyle attended elementary schools in Geneseo and Moline and is a proud graduate of Moline High School. He then went on to attend Black Hawk College to receive his Associates degree. While at Black Hawk, Kyle had the opportunity to work behind the scenes as a Production Assistant at WQAD-TV in Moline.
After Black Hawk, Kyle packed his bags and headed to DeKalb, IL to attend Northern Illinois University to receive his Bachelor's of Science degree in Meteorology and a minor in Geography. While at NIU, Kyle had valuable experience anchoring weather for the school's very own newscast, "NTC News Tonight." He also did forecasts for the school's newspaper and was an active member with the student chapter of the American Meteorological Society.
Kyle completed two internships with the weather departments at WQAD-TV in Moline, Illinois and WIFR-TV in Rockford, Illinois.
In his spare time, Kyle enjoys hanging out with family and friends, working out, and eating at the wide variety of restaurants the Quad Cities has to offer. He also participates in various road races in the Quad Cities, including the "Bix 7."
