Pawar drops out of governor's race

Chicago alderman was the first to launch bid to challenge Rauner

Chicago alderman Ameya Pawar is dropping out of the race for governor of Illinois.

Your Local Election Headquarters has more on what prompted the move.

The Democratic candidate says his campaign didn't have the money to carry on.

Pawar said in a release he's starting a political action committee instead.

He didn't endorse any of the remaining party candidates.

Here's a look at who's left in the race on the Democratic side.

State senator Daniel Biss, Madison County schools superintendent Bob Daiber and former University of Illinois board chair Chris Kennedy are still running. They're joined by physician Robert Marshall, civil engineer Alex Paterakis and venture capitalist J.B. Pritzker.

EARLIER REPORT

Ameya Pawar has dropped out of the primary race for Illinois governor.

The Chicago alderman was the first to launch a bid to challenge incumbent Governor Bruce Rauner for the  2018 election.

Pawar brought his campaign to Your Local Election Headquarters in January.

In the interview, he pointed to his accomplishments during six years as an alderman where he worked on paid sick leave, increasing the minimum wage and passing an anti-wage theft ordinance.
