4 before 4: School funding, Iowa plates, detours & police help

Here are four reports posted to OurQuadCities.com to review before Local 4 News at 4, 5 and 6:

+ Illinois comptroller Susana Mendoza directed the payment of $429 million in mandated categorical grants to help provide cash flow to schools on the day the state missed General State Aid payments to K-12 schools for the first time in its history.

+ Moline police are asking the public for help identifying two vehicles believed to be involved in a shooting over the weekend. Do you recognize them? Across the river, Davenport police are looking for two men who entered the convenience store with a gun and demanded money from the safe. A safe that could not be opened by the clerk. So they took cash from the register instead.

+ River Drive in Davenport is closed. 24th Street in Rock Island is closed. Detours are in place. Plan ahead. And use our traffic page to check the cameras.

+ Iowa license plates are changing in 2018. And the final three have been revealed. The flag option ("Flying Our Colors") is nice enough, but a combination of "Great Wide Open" and "City and Country Reboot" that maintains the skyline but trades the neon green grass for the natural green hills might be the best choice. It's not an official option, but you can see it above or by clicking here. And they aren't the only plates you can vote on today:

College football Saturdays start in 23 days. Hawkeye Headquarters is your, well, Hawkeye Headquarters.
