4 hurt after bus runs stop sign, hit by car

The accident involved a Kewanee School District bus and a Buick

Two students and two adults were sent to the hospital Wednesday after a bus ran a stop sign and was hit by a car near Orion.

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Office investigated an accident involving a Kewanee School District bus and a car Wednesday around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of 99th Street and 176th Avenue in rural Orion.

The bus carrying six students, one teacher and a driver was eastbound on 176th Avenue when it failed to yield at a stop sign, crossing into the path of a Buick Century traveling southbound on 99th Street. 

Two students, the driver and teacher were transported to a hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the bus was cited for failing to yield at an intersection. The area around the crash was shut down for approximately 1.5 hours while the investigation was ongoing.

The students were attending a leadership conference at Sherrard High School.
