DAVENPORT, Iowa - The River Bend Food Bank will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday for the new Davenport community food pantry.

The Davenport Community Food Pantry will provide a food safety net for individuals and families who are struggling with food insecurity in Davenport.

In the 22 counties that River Bend Food bank serves there are 119,570 people missing 21.4 million meals each year.

September also happens to be food action month and the River Bend food bank, along with the Feeding America Nationwide Network of food banks, will mobilize across all 50 states in an effort to bring an end to hunger.

Hunger action month is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness that 42 million Americans, including 13 million children, are food insecure, according to the USDA.

The food pantry ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 10AM on Thursday inside of the JB Young Center.
