Community members came together today to honor a local man, and raise awareness about mental illness.

The second annual Adam-fest was held in East Moline's Hilltop Plaza.

The event is thrown in honor of Adam Smith.

He was battling mental illness and committed suicide in 2012.

His family says the event is a way to draw attention to mental health.

"As long as the person's on the medication and they stay on the medication, then it really does help them, but it's when they get off, and we're hoping to find cures ultimately, and whether that will ever happen, who knows, but unless we try, we'll never know," said Adam's older brother Doug Smith.

The family says all of the proceeds will go toward mental health research.
