Five years ago Margie Escontrias was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer.
"I had always done my yearly mammograms and that's how mine was detected," she said.
Now in remission, Margie and her husband Eddie started their annual bags tournament; not as way to help pay for their own medical bills, but to help others.
Margie said, "I always thought if I was going through that, I could help someone else."
What started as a gathering of family and friends has turned into a annual event full of food, raffles, and of course bags.
The annual tournament raises money and awareness for breast cancer and early detection.
Eddie said, "The breast cancer she went through was the most aggressive kind, catching it in the first stage was really good to do."
Margie says getting a yearly mammogram was crucial to her survival.
They're hoping to raise more than $10,000 to help others battling breast cancer.
All of the money raised stays right here in the Quad Cities to help fund local breast cancer programs.
