Barge move getting closer

Old Rhythm City Casino barge headed to Keokuk

The plan to move the old Rhythm City Casino barge to Keokuk is getting closer to happening.

Keokuk City Administrator Aaron Burnett told Local 4 News that a public hearing has been scheduled for August 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Proposals have been requested from several barge companies to move the vessel, which the city wants to turn into a floating entertainment complex.

Keokuk has requested proposals from several companies, which are due August 16.

The city expects to take action on the proposals at the following meeting and will work with the contractor on the quickest timeframe feasible for removal.

This timeframe has several moving parts, but Burnett says the city is working as quickly as possible bearing in mind weather, prioritized river traffic and equipment availability all have influences on this project.
