Bathroom decisions at former J.B. Young

DAVENPORT - Davenport's school board is running into some issues surrounding the renovations at the former J.B. Young Intermediate school. Two of the building's bathrooms were built before guidelines changed under the Americans with disabilities act. The board must fix those issues -- or they could be fined. The operations director says... they have two options.

"Make them into store rooms and not use them as restrooms at all or blow the wall out between the pair and make the two into one, creating one restroom that meets the new standards but eliminating one restroom that met the old standard," said Mike Maloney,  Operations Director.

There is one restroom that's up to code on each floor of the building. Repairing the two bathrooms that aren't in compliance would cost about $60,000.
