Illinois Conservation Police are investigating a boat accident that could have had a very different outcome.

It happened on the Mississippi this afternoon, just a few miles upstream of Cordova. Officers say a twin hull speedboat somehow became airborne and flipped over, throwing the operator into the water. The Coal Valley man was not wearing a life jacket. Police say he was treated for a minor head injury and released from a local hospital.

A salvage company will have to come raise the sunken boat.
