BURLINGTON, Iowa - A Burlington woman is facing animal neglect charges after three cats and one dog were found dead in her former home.
On March 1, Des Moines County deputies responded to the home at 203 E. Michigan street when the new owner found the animals.
Lisa Morrison, the former owner, told deputies that she had buried the dog in the back yard and had given the cats away. According to police reports, deputies told her that the animals had been found inside the house, at which point she said that they had died back in 2014.
However, a veterinarian who examined the remains told investigators that the animals had died recently, and appeared to have eaten the remains of one who died first, before passing away themselves.
Morrison has been charged with four counts of animal neglect leading to death or injury.
