Community cross walk celebrates Good Friday

The Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church has held the walk since the 70s

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - A decades-old tradition in Rock Island highlighted  the Christian celebration of Good Friday.

The Gloria Dei Presbyterian Church organized the community cross walk. It's a three mile walk from city hall to the church with stops to read scripture and pray. The church's pastor says the walk is a good way to remember the biblical day.

"We are always remembering of Easter Morning, of his resurrection, but we don't want to go fast to the victory without remembering the journey it took of Jesus' love," said Pastor Drew Nogle from Gloria Dei Presbyterian church.

The church started hosting the walk in the 1970s as a way to bring more attention to one of the holiest days of the year for Christians.
