Conservation director announces 2018 bid for Iowa governor

HUXLEY, Iowa - A conservation director in Iowa says he'll be running for governor.

Rich Leopold is the first person to enter the 2018 race.

He's currently Polk County's conservation director who also served as the director of Iowa's Department of Natural Resources from 2007 to 2010.

Leopold says there are many issues that have pushed him to run for the post.

"Things have just been frustrating to me and this has to do with water quality and this has to do with jobs, mental illness, education; there's a lot of things I think have been going the wrong direction," Leopold said.

The democrat says he's an outsider who Iowa needs to lead the state.
