A housing complex in Rock Island is getting a fresh start.

The deconstruction of the old Manor Homes complex on 26th Avenue and 9th Street began in February,

And on Monday crews broke ground on the new Lynden Lane subdivision.

The nearly $12 million project will create 55 mixed income single–family units

The Rock Island Housing Authority says the goal is to make the neighborhood feel more residential.

“Manor homes served their purpose but their purpose is no longer functional within the lifestyle,” said Vernon Winter. “People want more space of their own and this will supply that for them.”

New residents will begin moving in this December as construction wraps up.
