Davenport city leaders tour a possible location for miniature golf

The River Bandits want to expand their entertainment area

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Davenport city leaders got a look at the plans for a miniature golf course behind Modern Woodmen Park along the Riverfront today.
The River Bandits owners want to expand their entertainment area by adding 18-holes of miniature golf.
This nearly 20,000 square foot expansion project is part of their goal to bring more families to the riverfront year round.
Their plan is to build a five and a half foot retaining block and cement wall to avoid flooding.
They also plan to install a six foot fence for safety.
There have been concerns over two sewers, but part of the plan, is to extend the sewers upward, five feet so that there is still access to them.
They also plan on adding LED lights pointed directly to the golf course, to avoid being a distraction to outdoor events at the bandshell.
River Bandits officials are also talking about building a ramp, to access the Ferris Wheel for maintenance.
"It's a win win situation, where we can come down to an area that's not really being kept right now, we can improve it no cost to the tax payers. Save them money, they don't have to worry about the maintenance, and we can bring something down here that's going to be family friendly," says Senator Roby Smith.
If approved, they plan for the entertainment venue to be there until their lease with the city expires in about 20 years.
The project will go before the riverfront improvement commission in a few weeks.
