We're not only taking you inside the gates of the Rock Island Arsenal, but we're taking you to the attic.
Which, actually, you have to go downstairs to find.
"It's just kind of a hidden gem,” said customer Jane Ernst.
In fact, the Rock Island Arsenal Attic Thrift Shop is actually in the basement of building 60 on Gillespie Street.
Run by a staff of volunteers, this thrift shop has a little something for everyone.
"A lot of glassware, cookware, books, of course clothes, children's toys, um, even military items," said Ernst.
And even items for the more fashion–conscious.. as our videographer mike soon learned.
"So if I needed a pair of high heeled leopard skin shoes?” asked Mike Colón.
Mary Sue: "This is the place to come. This is the place to come if you're going to prom, if you're going to any other kind of formal, a special night out, you will find a great selection here,” said volunteer Mary Sue Sipple.
But it isn't all for the ladies.
"We try to take care of our men here too," said Sipple.
From collectibles to videogames and movies, and yes, of course, more clothes.
"A lot of hunters come in and look for camouflage clothing to wear,” said Sipple.
So where do these hidden treasures come from?
The merchandise is all consigned from those military employees, their spouses, other government employees or volunteers.
"We have people that consign here who have actually been all over the globe, varieties, different walks of life. A lot of very interesting items and very high quality items come into the thrift shop as well," said Sipple.
And it's not just the consignors making money.
Thanks to the Welcome Club, a portion of the proceeds from the attic fund scholarships for children of military families.
So your dollars will not only pay for a new purse or maybe a movie... they'll also help send a student to college.
"It's more than your typical garage sale," said Sipple.
