Dixon Police investigate report of student on school grounds with a gun

Student eventually found off-campus

DIXON, Ill - Dixon Police say a student briefly had a gun on school property Wednesday morning, but he did not enter the school building.

It happened shortly before 10:00 a.m. when Police and school officials received reports of a despondent student with a gun in the parking lot of Dixon High School. School officials and the School Resource Officer investigated the report and determined the student had left school property.

Police say they located the student at a house in Dixon within 15 minutes of their initial search. As a result of their investigation, police seized one handgun and two rifles. The student was transported to KSB Hospital in Dixon for evaluation. Police say criminal charges are pending against the student.

Police say there is no information the student intended to harm anyone at the school, and there is no current threat to students or staff at the school.  Dixon High School administrators say school counselors will be available for the next several days should students need assistance or support.
