The Downtown Davenport Street Fest kicked off one of the most highly anticipated weekends in the Quad Cities each year: Bix weekend. Vendors lined the streets with food, crafts and entertainment.
Some vendors, like Iowa's greatest KettleKorn, have been coming to the event for twwnty-plus years. They say meeting new people in the Midwest is what brings them back.
"They are coming in from all over the country and that's what makes this festival so much fun," said Greg Beaman of Iowa's Greatest KettleKorn. "You get to meet people. maybe they were originally from here and they're just coming back, or maybe they're jsut coming in for the race, it's just a fun time."
Ruth Mariela Bippen is from Ecuador and she knows there is something special about the Midwest.
"I love how open the people is, they are very open and love to talk, they're very friendly," said Bippen.
The festival runs until late tonight and kicks off again at 10 a.m. Saturday, and the Midwest weather is cooperating.
"After last week and taking part of festivals, we've got perfect weather coming in for the StreetFest. I think it's going to be great weather for the runners being cloudy. The temperatures are staying down in the seventies and just hitting the eighties, just perfect," said Beaman.
From the musical acts to the crafts to the fair style food, the Downtown Davenport StreetFest remains a favorite in the Quad Cities.
