East Moline residents seek help after being told to move out of Mckinley Apartments

Residents have until Monday July 24 to leave

EAST MOLINE, Ill. - "I'm speechless right now, because it's horrendous," says Summer Divers.

She, along with others who live inside of Mckinley Apartments in East Moline are being given until Monday (July 24) to move out of their homes. The city of East Moline has deemed the apartment complex unlivable, and is forcing the remaining tenants to leave, or face fines, and/or an arrest.

The apartment complex was owned by Robert Simmons, who recently filed for bankruptcy. Our search for the formal owner of the building led us to Blackhawk State Bank, who says they do not currently own the property.

Divers, as well as her next-door neighbor Joan Vargas, plan on going to Project NOW in Rock Island, to seek assistance in finding a new place to live.
