Former union leader running for Illinois State Senate

Gregg Johnson plans to challenge incumbent Neil Anderson

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - A Democrat from Rock Island County will enter the race for Illinois State Senate to challenge Republican incumbent Neil Anderson next year.

Your local election headquarters learned that Gregg Johnson will formally launch his State Senate campaign on Thursday.

Johnson is a retired union leader who used to be the president of AFSCME Local 46.

While retired, Johnson has remained politically active and worked on several campaigns for Democratic candidates in Illinois.

Johnson declined to comment for this story, but will discuss his priorities on Thursday.

Anderson, who describes himself as a pro-labor Republican, already indicated he will seek a second term in the Senate.
