Many local golfers teed off at a festival in Sherrard today, for Fyre Lake Golf Club's "Fairway Fest."

Some golfers drove hours to enjoy a day on this course in sherrard, and they say they're enjoying the changes made by the new owners at fyre lake golf.

"It's a lengths course, it's a challenging course, it's got an up and down and that. It's just a beautiful course to play," said Geneseo resident Chuck Johnson.

Johnson has golfed at Fyre lake golf course for years, and he can really see the improvement since new management has taken over.
"They're working on the course. It's coming along. I play at a local country club and this is a very challenging and very inviting course," said Johnson.

The golf club was under scrutiny under prior owner todd raufheisen over its liquor license and past financial problems, but Jordan Thoms, who's family took over the course in june, says that's behind them, and and they're taking steps to make the course better.

"We've been maintaining the course more this year, than they have in past years. The greens are better shape, the fairways, tee boxes, we're working on redoing a lot of the sand traps," said Thoms.

Thoms says the local golfers seem to like how they're running the course.

The community's been very supportive of the golf course. They've been out here most days, and they've been very warm and very receptive to us," said Thoms.

I wish Witty and Thoms the best as far as developing the course," said Johnson.

If you missed the event there will be another fairway fest on the last Saturday of September.
