Gun found under child's bed after raid

Police say they found a loaded gun under a child's bed after serving a search warrant for drugs.

Members of the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group; along with the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department Emergency Services Team searched a home in the 1000 block of Rebecca Avenue in Carbon Cliff on Thursday.

There they found marijuana, crack cocaine, and a loaded .25 handgun under a 4-year-old's bed.

Officers arrested Sylvester Staples, 23 and charged him with being an armed habitual criminal, possession with intent to deliver drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, and felon in possession of a firearm.

The Department of Children and Family Services was notified.  Police say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests may be forthcoming.
