AAA reports 35.5 million Americans are expected to travel by car this holiday weekend.
While Independence Day is typically the busiest summer travel holiday, reps say the number is the highest it's been since 2007. Part of the reason is because gas prices are at the lowest 4th of July price in five years.
In the Iowa Quad Cities, AAA reports a gallon of regular will cost you $2.61. You'll pay $2.80 for a gallon of gas in the Illinois Quad Cities.
The national average is in between, at $2.78 a gallon. That is 90 cents less than a year ago.
