Hero Street ceremony honors veterans

Dozens surrounded the monument to remember veterans' sacrifices

SILVIS, Ill. - Veterans were remembered during a ceremony on Hero Street in Silvis, Illinois.

Dozens of people surrounded the Hero Street Monument.

Multiple speakers spoke about the sacrifice of fallen veterans.

Tap was played, and there was a 21-gun salute.

Brig. Gen. General Richard Dix says this is a time to honor, remember and celebrate the lives of veterans..

"When you look at the month of May, it's all about regeneration and growth and a newness. You've got to understand where we come from and the sacrifices that were made," said Dix.

A wreath was laid during the ceremony to honor the veterans.
