A historic Muscatine home is destroyed after a fire broke out just after noon on Tuesday, Dec. 1st.
Fire crews received a 911 call at 315 W. 3rd Street and found smoke coming from the basement and attic of the residence.
Crews eventually made entry but because of structural weakness, battling the fire was difficult. Crews were forced to utilize defensive tactics in order to safely contain the fire. The structure sustained major structural damage and will likely be a complete loss.
The owner was home at the time, but evacuated.
The estimated loss cost is $300,000.
Crews will remain on scene through the night watching for hot spots.
Investigation will begin on Wednesday.
Altogether 31 firefighters responded to this fire.
No one was injured.
