Drive sober or get pulled over.
That's the message coming from the Illinois Department of Transportation heading into Labor Day weekend.
Sixteen people died over Labor Day weekend in traffic accidents across Illinois last year. Authorities are setting up hundreds of DUI enforcement zones and seatbelt checkpoints across the state.
Officials said giving a heads up to your friends about the checkpoints is okay with police. They appreciate the help.
"It's a free public service announcement," said East Moline Police Chief, Victor Moreno. "Our goal, like we said is, if you get arrested so be it, but our goal is to make it so where people don't drink and drive."
You can expect to see extra patrols in Iowa over the holiday as well.
