Iowa Senator Joni Ernst visits the Quad Cities

Senator Ernst spoke of bipartisan efforts in Government

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The annual 99-county tour is a great way for Iowa Senator Joni Ernst to get an inside look at what concerns the people of her state have.

She says it can also lead to more cooperation within government, itself.

"We do try to work as bipartisan as we can," Ernst said. "Of course, we will always have differences out there. But, the way to move forward really is by sharing ideas, getting together and talking it through."

During the tour, Ernst visits numerous local businesses, and holds critical town hall meetings that she says is critically important when figuring out what matters to the people.

"I still take notes on what people's concerns are, and it helps just to hear that coming from them. The things that they're interested in," says Ernst.

One of the biggest concerns for Senator Ernst, the personal relationship between different groups of people in the country, especially in light of the recent Charlottesville protests.

Ernst believes that, as a country, changes have to be made.

"Getting back to respecting people. I've had a number of town halls, and of course we may disagree on a number of different issues," says Ernst. "But when we can come together and really have civil discussion, that's when we find our shared passions, and how we can actually move through any situation, any conflict that we have."

Conflict that she hopes is slowly being resolved, thanks in part, to hearing straight from the people of Iowa.

"I love hearing from my constituents, and they have a very important voice. And, that voice, I want to carry out to Washington D.C., and share with my colleagues out there."
