Meanwhile, the offenders at the Iowa State Penitentiary now have a new address.
The Iowa State Penitentiary moved 507 of its maximum security prisoners Saturday from the existing prison to their new facility in Fort Madison.
The move started just before 7 am and wrapped up around 12:45 pm.
Prisoners were transported by penitentiary staff, who were assisted by five other Iowa prisons, Iowa State Patrol, and area police departments.
Penitentiary officials say the airspace above both facilities and the transportation route were also monitored, while the inmates were moved.
The new $132 million prison holds 800 inmates and is about two miles north of the old penitentiary, which was built in 1839, before Iowa even became a state.
