MONMOUTH, Illinois - Hedge balls. They're not the first thing that come to mind when you think of a medical breakthrough.
But two entrepreneurs in Monmouth, Illinois hope to utilize the fruit to treat deadly diseases.
They own the largest hedge ball manufacturing plant in the world. The 24,000 square-foot HTO, LLC plant holds 400 tons of hedge balls that have valuable oil. Mark Hockenberry and John Twomey started paying $180 per ton for the fruit.
They talked to Local 4 News about how they are turning one man's trash into their treasure.
"We really can make some money just by going and picking up these green balls," Twomey said.
