Lutheran Home hosts grand opening of memory care addition

Davenport's Lutheran Home had the grand opening of their memory care addition Sunday afternoon.

The grand opening Sunday was part its 46th annual ice cream social, which is a family friendly event for residents and their families.

The home unveiled its new wing, which features 26 private living areas, accommodating residents living with cognitive impairments.

The staff said it was a needed upgrade.

"We currently have a 26-bed dementia unit, but we have noted there are many more residents out there that we would like to be able to serve that have cognitive impairments," administrator Shelly Hopp said. "So we designed this new building where they could have their own individual spaces and more room to meander around and it's just much more of a home-like environment, so they don't feel like they're living in an institution they feel like they are at home."
