Man accused of kidnapping woman at mall ‘really struggling'

Fitness hearing was re-scheduled for Friday morning

A hearing was held Tuesday for the man accused of kidnapping a woman from the parking lot of SouthPark Mall in October.

According to court documents, the psychological examination to determine Floyd May’s mental fitness to stand trial was ordered last month but has not been yet been completed by the county’s contracted psychologist Dr. Kirk Witherspoon.

According to Rock Island County State’s Attorney John McGehee, May told the judge he is ‘really struggling’ with his mental health behind bars.

The fitness hearing was re-scheduled for Friday morning, at which time a ruling is expected to determine if May will require psychiatric treatment before he is found fit to participate in his own defense.
