Man in motel standoff appears in court

A Moline man had his first court appearance this afternoon, after being arrested this weekend following a several hour stand-off Friday night at a Moline motel.

Roderick Crawford, 37, responded to a call about a stolen vehicle.

When they arrived Crawford, whom police say had occupied the vehicle, had barricaded himself inside a room and was armed and threatening to shoot officers.

After multiple attempts to negotiate with Crawford, Moline PD’s Crisis Containment Unit  launched gas canisters into the motel room, resulting in Crawford surrendering.

Police found a gas mask and a black semi-automatic handgun in the room.

Crawford is being held in charges related to being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and several outstanding warrants.

Crawford has two prior gun-related convictions.
