Man pleads not guilty to first degree murder

Burned body found in northwest Davenport in May

A Davenport man has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder in the death of a man whose burned body was found in northwest Davenport in May.

Firemen were called to this West Dennison Avenue neighborhood May 30 after a newspaper delivery person reported something burning in a front yard.

It was discovered to be the body of 35-year old Brandon Brooks of Rock Island.

Both the defendant, Tremayne Thomas, and Brooks had been co-defendants in a January 10 burglary, according to court records. Brooks was released from jail five days before his burned body was discovered.

Attorney Derek Gordon Jones filed a written arraignment and not guilty plea today in Scott County District Court on behalf of his client.

Thomas is requesting a speedy trial.
