Man who fell from bridge identified

Security footage from the bridge camera shows Jim Wagner falling into the river

Officials have identified a man who disappeared Monday from a railroad bridge in East Dubuque.

According to East Dubuque Fire Chief Joe Heim, Jim Wagner of Dubuque, an employee of Canadian National railroad, fell from the bridge tower, where he was working to operate the bridge span, which opens to allow large river vessels to pass.

Heim told reporters at a news conference Tuesday that security footage from the bridge camera shows Wagner falling into the river.

Crews used sonar and dragging equipment today to search the area downstream from the railroad bridge to the Julien Dubuque bridge, but did not recover his body.

Heim says crews are scaling back their search operations, but will continue to search the river periodically over the next two weeks.
