Motorcyclist killed in Des Moines county crash

A motorcyclist was killed Friday night traveling along U.S. 34 in rural Des Moines County, Iowa.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. when a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer heading eastbound on U.S. 34 struck a motorcycle from behind also going eastbound. 

The motorcyclist, identified as 52-year-old Douglas Ralph Rettig, fell into to the middle of the highway. 

A Chrysler 300 approached and hit the bike as well. 

The accident is under investigation by the Iowa State Police.
