The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Rock Island was full on Saturday afternoon as the Rock Island NAACP hosted it's annual Community Outreach Resource Fair.

"This is to bring resources in the community together under one roof, then invite residents in the community to come and learn more about services that are available, have questions answered and have fun," said NAACP President Berlinda Tyler-Jamison.

Local officials joined in the activities to help bring information to the people.

"We bring a lot of agencies together from all over the Quad Cities really and they provide all the information a person could possibly want, it's just a great opportunity for everybody get the information they need," said Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley.

"It's convenient, it's a way for people in the community to come out and meet other people, and see the services that are out here and available for them," said Chief of Police Jeff VenHuizen.

And it's not just about the information: it's about coming together as a community.

"It's to show unity and to bring them together. We've got the Rock Island Police Department here, the Sheriff's Department, family resources, we've got all these resources because all together we make one," said Community Outreach Chairperson Ametra Carrol-Castaneda.

People of all ages came out for the event. There were games, music and activities outside along with information inside and food.  The organizers of the event were overjoyed with the positive atmosphere.

"Right now is my favorite part with everyone coming in. I'm just, you can see me, I can't stop smiling I'm just so happy. I'm glad, I'm just so happy and I'm trying to keep from crying," said Carrol-Castaneda.
