Downtown Rock Island will have some new additions, as Renaissance Rock Island partners with Quad City arts to create an artist inspired community in downtown Rock Island, called star block apartments. A 140-year old historic structure has been transformed into lofts. There will be eight artist "live-work lofts" with first floor commercial space, in the heart of downtown where people will be closer to events.
"There's eight apartments, two of which are targeting veterans with special needs for handicap accessibility, and then six additional artist inspired lofts. Eleven layers of financing, 2.1 million dollars later and you get an opportunity to see what we have here", said president of Renaissance Rock Island Brian Hollenback.
Lofts will range from $500-$1,000 a month for rent including a beautiful view of downtown. The ribbon cutting will take place Thursday morning at 11 am in downtown Rock Island, and applications for the lofts are now being accepted.
