A giant development in Moline just reached a new milestone. City planners showed off the latest plans for the multi modal station. They also unveiled the new logo for the project.

The q is the official name for Moline's new multi modal station. Janet Mathis is the CEO of Renew Moline: an economic development organization.

"Q is a lot of things. Quad Cities, of course, we think of the Q. Q like queuing up to come some place. We really hope this is a gathering place for the entire Quad City area, and a place people want to come to not just for rail, but for so many other reasons," Mathis said.

The Q will bring rail travel back to the area, something the Quad Cities hasn't seen since the 1970s. Plans for the project include 20,000 square feet of retail space, plus a 96-room hotel owned by the Amin Group: The same company that owns the Radisson by the iWireless Center.

"The downtown is actually lacking the type of hotel we're going to be putting here, which is an extended stay hotel," said Mike Amin, an Amin Group managing partner.

Things look pretty empty right now, but inside the station, there's areas laid out for shops and restaurants. Beyond the back wall, there'll be a set of brand new train tracks.

"You see the meandering sidewalk. That's approximately where the new tracks is coming in," said Ray Forsythe, the Planning and Development Director for the city of Moline.

Forsythe says the city's been working on the Q since 2010. Now, its finally taking shape after six years of gathering state, federal, and city approvals.

"This is going to be a regional draw. We wanted to make an iconic investment for the entire Quad Cities, so it just happens to be in Moline," Forsythe said.

Altogether, the station and hotel are projected to cost $35 million. The multi modal station should be finished in 2017 as long as there aren't any unexpected delays.
