Pedestrian suffers serious life threatening injuries in crash

Driver charged with OWI, reckless driving and other offenses

A pedestrian was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City for serious life threatening injuries after being struck by a car near the intersection of River Drive and Division Street on Wednesday night.

Police and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene around 8:45 p.m. for an incident involving a black 2007 Lexus ES350 and a pedestrian. 

The pedestrian, Sharica Hamilton, 25, was transported to Genesis Medical Center (East Campus) and then airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City for serious life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Lexus was identified as Shonda Carter, who was charged with willful injury with serious injury, serious injury by motor vehicle, operating while intoxicated (second offense), failure to have insurance, reckless driving and expired registration.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Traffic Safety Bureau of the Davenport Police Department.
