Police disable stolen vehicle, arrest teen

Charges of aggravated fleeing, felony criminal damage and aggravated assault

One teen was arrested Tuesday after police used Stop Sticks to disable the stolen vehicle he was driving.

Moline police were responded to a report of a reckless driver at 9:43 a.m. near 7th Street and 4th Avenue, heading southbound on 6th Street.

Moline officers located the vehicle -- a black Nissan Altima reported stolen Monday in Rock Island -- traveling eastbound on 6th Avenue and deployed Stop Sticks at 16th Street and 6th Avenue, puncturing the passenger side tire of the vehicle and slowing it down. The occupants of the vehicle had allegedly pointed a handgun at people earlier in the day in Rock Island.

Moline officers followed the suspect vehicle as it entered into East Moline onto a dead end road.

According to police, the driver, a 14-year-old boy, swerved towards a uniformed Moline officer, nearly hitting him before running into a retaining wall.

East Moline Fire and Genesis Ambulance responded and the teen was transported to Genesis for treatment of minor injuries related to the crash.

The teen will be detained at Mary Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Galesburg on charges of aggravated fleeing/eluding a peace officer, felony criminal damage to property and aggravated assault of a peace officer.

Additional charges are pending out of the Rock Island Police Department.
