Quad Cities interfaith calls on local police to make neighborhoods safer

They're calling for police to work closer with the community.

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Leaders of faith came together today to build relationships with police, And make neighborhoods safer. They're calling for police to work closer with the community. 
 
During a meeting, Religious leaders from different faiths talked about ideas to make the area safer.
 
One major proposal the faith and community leaders brought up today was a return to community policing to help build the relationship between the police and the public. 
 
In addition to community policing, the group called for end to racial biases and more recruitment of officers of color.They're looking for more diversity, crisis intervention, and racial bias training for police.
 
"We don't want to wait until something else terrible happens we want to get out in front and start this conversation  and build relationships," said Reverend Clark Olson-Smith with Quad Cities interfaith.
 
The cause for the call to action comes after clashes between police and public in places like Ferguson, Missouri and Cincinnati among others.  
 
A Saint Ambrose University study released earlier this year about racial profiling found in 2014, Davenport police pulled over seven percent more african american drivers--- than white drivers.   
The study also showed that black drivers were more likely to have their cars searched, but that a white driver was more likely to have something illegal in their car. 
 
Quad Cities Interfaith hopes to work with all Quad Cities police departments on this issue. 
Right now, they're focusing on Davenport as the city searches for a new City Administrator and Police Chief.
