A RAGBRAI rider suffered life-threatening injuries after the tent he was in was hit and dragged by a pickup truck.

The incident happened around 11:30 Sunday night at a campground in Shenandoah.

James Foley, 67, of Jacksonville, Florida was inside the tent when it was hit by a truck hauling a trailer driven by Danny Cardin, 55, of Homer, Louisana.

Iowa State Patrol troopers said Cardin dragged Foley for fifty feet before stopping.  Foley was flown by medical helicopter to Creighton University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Cardin has been charged with serious injury by vehicle and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident.  He is being held in the Fremont County Jail.

Sunday's incident is the second to mar the start of this year's ride; on Saturday rider Wayne Ezell was killed when he was hit by a truck on Highway 34.
