Rock Island Dunkin' Donuts going forward

Chain is scrapping 50 planned U.S. locations, but not RI's

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Dunkin' Donuts in Rock Island is going forward as planned, a company spokesperson told Local 4 News on Monday.

The chain announced last month it will only open 380 to 450 locations this year instead of the 585 it had planned. Although most will be cut overseas, Dunkin' is also scrapping plans for 50 locations in the United States.

The Rock Island store expected to move in next door to CVS Pharmacy on 18th Avenue isn't one of them.

However, no opening date for the store has been announced, and its name might be up in the air as well.

A store opening this month in Pasadena, California, will call itself just Dunkin' and a few other Dunkin'-only stores will pop up later this year.

Until 1999, a Dunkin' Donuts was located where Dr. Gyro's is now, at 2519 18th Avenue.
