Douglas Park renovations include plans for museum to showcase first NFL game

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Makeover plans to Rock Island's Douglas Park will include adding a museum to commemorate the first game involving an NFL team.

Plans to renovate the old firehouse into the museum will be announced by city leaders and the Friends of Douglas Park on Tuesday.

Other additions to the park will include a new parking lot, better lighting and upgrades to the field for baseball, softball, football and soccer.

The redevelopment plans will be discussed in more detail during the announcement scheduled for 3 p.m. at Douglas Park.

Douglas Park was the site of the first football game involving an NFL team on September 26, 1920. The Rock Island Independents beat the St. Paul Ideals 48–0.
