Rounding up all cowboys: Old West convention in town

Convention calls history buffs and cowboy enthusiasts

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The National Congress of Old West Shootists Convention kicked off this afternoon.

More than a hundred cowboys and history buffs are gathering at the Radisson Hotel in Davenport this weekend.

The event focuses on American history between 1865 and 1899 and includes plenty of old west-style clothing, firearms and books for sale.

"If you have any interest in the Old West. The knowledge of our group, which has done so much research on the Old West, not necessarily myself but there's somebody in here, this room, that could probably tell you anything you could ever ask," said John "Bear Tooth Billy" Hoker, event organizer.

The convention runs until Sunday afternoon.

The Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau expects it to bring in about $34 thousand dollars to the area.
