Son arrested and charged with murdering his parents in DeWitt

Gavin Glasz faces two counts of 1st Degree Murder

DeWitt, Iowa - Police have arrested the son of the couple found dead in their DeWitt home and charged him with two counts of first degree murder. 

Gavin Glasz was already in custody in Clinton County on an unrelated warrant. 

According to court documents, investigators say Glasz killed his mother and father and left their bodies inside their home at 3750 Hwy 30 in rural DeWitt. The Iowa State Medical Examiner says Brian Glasz' cause of death is multiple sharp force injuries, strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head. Michelle Glasz' cause of death is strangulation and multiple sharp force injuries.

According to the affidavit, a friend of Gavin Glasz told investigators he made a comment Monday night, June 12, 2017, to the effect of: "My mom and dad need to be with my grandpa... off this earth."

Police have released the names of the couple found dead inside their DeWitt home Tuesday. 

The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner says autopsies confirmed their identities as 51-year-old Brian Glasz and his wife, 54-year-old Michelle Glasz. Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln says he expects their cause of death to be released Friday.

Deputies found the bodies of two adults at a home in DeWitt while performing a welfare check for family members, according to the Clinton County sheriff's office.

Family asked deputies to go to the 3700th block of U.S. Highway 30 around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday because neither person who lives at the residence were answering their phones. The names of the victims are not being released while the investigation continues and other family members are notified.

Deputies contacted the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Clinton County Attorney's Office for assistance.
