The State Street fire station in Bettendorf is back open after an eight year hiatus.

Doors opened Wednesday after being closed since 2009 for paid workers.

It was occupied by the chief and volunteers.

City council approved reopening and re-staffing it in May.

There are now 30 volunteers and 37 paid workers at the station.

"This is the first time in our 107 year history of the fire department that we are going to be able to staff this station 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, 7 days a week with a crew of 4 firefighters," said Gerry Voelliger, fire chief.

State Street fire station joins two others operating in Bettendorf.
The station also includes a fire boat.
