Students donate 693 books to school damaged by fire

Muscatine students held a book drive to gather donations for Moline school

Some elementary students in Muscatine are also stepping up to help Franklin Elementary in Moline.

Students from Madison Elementary School are donating nearly 700 books to the school that was damaged by a fire. The Muscatine students held a book drive to gather those donations.

"We heard that their books a lot of the their books got ruined so we wanted to help out by starting a book drive to donate so all the classes donated books and then we brought them here and we ended up with 693 books," said Hayden Kirchner, Madison Elementary School student.

This effort started after a teacher approached students at and asked if they were interested in doing something to help Franklin.

The students discussed the idea and agreed to take on the book drive.

Students advertised ahead of time, going into classrooms to explain to other students how they could help.
