Substance abuse is a growing problem across the country.
September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery month.
It's designed to increase awareness about substance abuse and celebrate the people who have found a way out.

The Robert Young center, Riverside is a local group helping those with addiction.
Therapists there say they see about 35 to 40 outpatients a week on average.
Here are some tips experts have if you have a loved one suffering from alcohol or drug addiction.
First, you should meet with the individual and address the addiction problem when the individual is sober.
Therapists also say it's common for the individual to get upset but they say stand strong and set boundaries.
For example, if the individual has had run ins with the law, tell them you won't be there to bail them out unless they agree to get help.

In addition to the Robert Young center there are other organizations and support groups for family and friends that are helping loved ones battling addiction.
