Sudlow Intermediate creates app for parents

The app has already been downloaded more than 200 times

DAVENPORT, Iowa - For parents with students at Sudlow Intermediate School, staying in the know just got easier because now there's an app for that.

The school launched the app last week and said it has already been downloaded more than 200 times.

The app is the first of its kind for the Davenport School District. It's a one-stop-shop for everything parents need to know. They can contact teachers, add lunch money to their student's account and check the school calendar.

"What's really cool about this app, and most importantly, is that they can receive push notifications if there's ever a delay, cancellation or information that we need to get immediately to the parents," said Sudlow teacher Evan Mosier, who came up with the idea for the app. "We can do that through this app, without directing them to Facebook or Twitter or something like that."

Mosier said the original thought was to create an app for the entire school district. However, that would cost $40,000 to develop. The app for Sudlow cost just $2,500 to develop, and was funded entirely through corporate sponsorships.

"I did not want any money to come out of any funds meant for the students and I didn't want it to come out of PTA because they sponsor the teachers," Mosier said.

Android users can download the app by searching "Sudlow Intermediate School" in the Play Store.

iPhone users can download the it through A+ Apps. Once downloaded, they can search "Sudlow Intermediate School" to access the app.
